Barcelona, 11th January, 2017.- Chiesi and Richi Social Entrepeneurs have made public today the name of the winning startup New Born Solutions. The startup has been selected to participate in the immersion program organized by Richi Social Entrepreuneurs in Boston as a result of the scholarship that Chiesi sponsors. New Born Solutions is a startup based on the development of the first noninvasive screening device for the detection of childhood meningitis. The objective of this project is to develop and globally distribute the “neosonics” device to hospitals and health centers to improve the care of neonates with meningitis risk.
The startup New Born Solutions will have the opportunity, thanks to Chiesi's sponsorship, to connect with Boston’s ecosystem, to work on its strategy and acquire new knowledge along with 14 other international startups, during their stay in the immersion program that Richi Social Entrepreneurs organizes in Boston from April 19th to May 9th, 2017. The American city is considered the “mecca” of biotechnology and health impact-related to entrepreneurship.
Through initiatives like this, Chiesi seeks to reinforce its commitment with innovation associated to entrepreneurship and to create alliances capable of providing improvements in therapeutic solutions and in the quality life of the patients. "This sponsorship is a proof of Chiesi's clear commitment to entrepreneurship and technological and innovative initiatives related to health," said Ricardo Castrillo, Business Unit Director of Special Care at Chiesi Spain.
For the selection of the final startup Chiesi and Richi Social Entrepreuneurs carried out a scouting process to identify the five finalist startups valuing different criteria. All the projects were invited to participate in a final pitch session on December 21st organized in Barcelona. During the session, each startup made a 6 minutes presentation to a jury integrated by Chiesi's own employees, who evaluated and chose the finalist startup; New Born Solutions.
Among the others startups were; Biohope, biotechnology applied to the development of biomarkers and therapies for better management of organ rejection; Mendelian, a genetic compatibility platform applied to the detection of rare diseases; S-Biomedic, a project of probiotic cosmetics against dermatological pathologies and; StethoMe, electronic stethoscope integrated with thermometer for monitoring the health of children.
Ernest Lara, Executive Director of Richi Social Entrepreneurs, points out that "these collaboration agreements are highly relevant to create alliances between pioneering entrepreneurship projects and pharmaceutical companies in the health sector”. He also emphasizes that “through this scholarship, Chiesi provides to New Born Solutions the opportunity to establish new knowledge and to interact with experts in the field of biotechnology”.
